035 - Up And Away

"Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon?"

- Johnny Webb

  • Artist Statement

Before I started what has become the Houston Llew studio, I lost my corporate job and had little to occupy my time and no idea what to do next in life. My mom invited me to come out to New Mexico and join her for a few weeks to clear my mind and discover the desert. One of the beautiful things about living in the desert is the conducive climate for hot air balloons. Every fall, the Albuquerque Balloon Festival is renowned for its wondrous send up of giant, team-operated hot air balloons in all varieties of scale and style. But, nature is not always kind, and the opportunity to get a balloon up in the air is fickle with the weather. If it's too cold, or too windy, the balloons are earth-bound. Much like the chances we get in life - such as this crazy art studio and an opportunity to make art for life - is a chance opportunity that you have to take while its in front of you.
